Mike Moore's piece on the Allihies man-engine house unfortunately gives the impression that there were only 19 man-engines built and that they originated in Cornwall. This is not the case as they originated in the Harz Mountains in Germany. There is an interesting web site devoted to the history of the man-engine at http://www.geo-tec-online.com/gag/tkfahre.html The item is written by Thomas Krassman and he lists some 101 man-engines!
