Please go back and read your books again and you will find that by the time
iron is recovered from marine sites it is no longer iron but iron oxide. The
sea is a very poor environment for the survival of iron, and artefacts are
usually only present as psudomorphs within a ferrous oxide concretion. They
will show on xrays but if the rust is cleaned off there will be very little
if anything remaining. Having spent the last four years studying archaeology
i do come to this discussion with some knowledge.
