As far as I am aware the Alderley Edge Landscape project is still
operating at Manchester Museum but on a much reduced scale. Their web
site has disappeared and a new one appears to be under construction. I
understand that a book will be published in the near future by Simon
Timberlake, The Villas of Alderley Edge has been on the shelves
for some time.
The project collected together a great deal of information and I was
very surprised when I read the e-mail from Ben. I have been involved
with AE for 20 yrs and I would agree that there is nothing left in the
mines so it is about time that the artefacts were returned to Alderley.
What use are they in someone's garage or cellar, they need to be put
back into the mines or in the new visitor centre. Out of context they
are worthless.
This is the type of behaviour which gave the NCC its reputation on the
edge.
I would be very interested to discover the location of these items and
if they could be viewed.
By the way, the day books for west mine have now been put onto computer
by the project.
Perhaps they have more information than you think !!!!
