The Cheshire Reccord Office is currently undertaking a major reorganisation of storage, which inevitably raises questions of re-appraisal. Among the leading candidates for such treatment are the records of pre-1974 local authorities, which have been allowed to accumulate in rather piecemeal fashion. I am sure that many of our professional colleagues have resolved these problems long ago; if anyone has a satisfactory scheme for the appraisal and selection of such records, we would be very pleased to hear from them.
