The UNESCO Thesaurus

A meeting of users of the UNESCO Thesaurus was held at the Public Record
Office on February 25th 2000. Members (25 in all) from national, university,
specialist and local authority repositories, had previously attended an
introductory day on the UNESCO Thesaurus and subject indexing held at the
PRO on December 8th 1999. At this day event they had volunteered to promote
the use of the thesaurus amongst the archive profession.

At the meeting, it was agreed that the UNESCO Thesaurus is a high level
thesaurus to which the archive community in the UK could subscribe.

Endorsement of the UNESCO Thesaurus as a standard for high level subject
indexing, will be sought from umbrella bodies within the profession.

It would be useful in this context, if other users of the UNESCO Thesaurus
could indicate their usage by sending a brief email to Charles Tattersall at
the PRO <[log in to unmask]>
