Winter Skin Care
Physical therapists take care of skin and winter is here with dry skin
from dry indoor heat---uncomfortabel, itchy, and flaky. Just about
everyone gets dry skin at this time especially my elderly patients.
Lotion is not always adequate to take care of this----it's often too
expensive or contains alcohol.
A year ago a friend of mine gave me one of the best dry skin care tips
I've seen: Instruct your patients----Before they get out of the shower
rub a small amount of "Baby Oil Gel" in your hands and apply it to your
entire body. Let the last few minutes of the shower rinse away excess.
Get out of shower towel off well and you will have a moisture protection
barrier for 1-2 days. And since you put it on in the shower and toweled
off it's not too greasy. A little bit goes a long ways.
I have found this to be one of the best dry skin care tips I can give my
patients when dry skin shows up in the winter----good for you too.
PRECAUTION---The only precaution is that it will make the floor of your
shower a little slippery---be careful---warn your patients.
Does anyone else have any winter skin care tips for our patients and for
the rest of us?
