Dear Bernadette
The Chartered Society of Physiiotherapy has produced an information paper
'Quality Assurance: Conducting a survey' (PA 15). This is free to members.
Ring Professional Affairs on 0171 306 6633.
Roush SE, Sonstroem RJ (1999) Development of the physical therapy outpatient
satisfaction survey Physical Therapy 79, 2, 159 - 170 looks like it might
give you some pointers.
Fitzpatrick R (1991) Survey of satisfaction: 1 - Important general
considerations BMJ 302, 887 - 889 is a bit old, but may be a starter.
Bain J, Kelly H et al (1999) Day surgery in Scotland: Paient satisfaction
and outcomes Quality in Health Care 8, 86 - 91 will probably have more up to
date thoughts
There are many more relevant papers and books on survey techniques, question
setting, etc.
This is a hot topic in health care in general as the world of healthcare
wakes up to the need to routinely know what patients think of the service.
This has also been stimulated by the Government's National Performance
Assessment Framework - the Survey of Patient and User Experience).
If you are a member of the CSP, you may be interested to know the CSP is
piiloting a draft patient questionnaire which is to be used in conjunction
with the new professional standards which are currently being developed;
both are due out in Summer/Autumn 2000.
Good luck with it

Subject: patients satisfaction survey
Dear List,
My manager would like to set up a patient satisfaction survey for the
outpatients physio dept.(mainly musculo-skeletal). Does anyone out there
have experience with a questionnaire? How to set the questions, what to
beware of and if there is literature on this?
Thank you for your help,
Bernadette Sangeelee.
