Dear Isabel
Good to receive your msg.
I am not a biochemist and so cannot
answer fully but as a Theoretical
Chemist who was also at the Max-
Planck-Institut and Heidelberg
University, I can at least possibly assist
you.
Firstly, are you a membe of the
Portugese Chemical Society since we
now have a European Organisation
which covers all of the European
Societies. If so I can more easily point
you directly to the German Society in
Frankfurt-am-Main.
Many Society Libraries will post books or
sent permitted photocopies via post to a
member. You can search on-line for your
books.
I will email you the contact addresses in
Germany and I would suggest you send
the editor of the European Chemist a
copy of your msg posted here.
Kind regards, Peter Randle

This is my first message to german-studies
Some biographical information about me:
I'm a Teaching Assistant at the History of
Science Unit, SACSA, Faculty of
Science and Technology, New University of
Lisbon. My fields of study
include: history of biological and biomedical
sciences in the 20th
century, in particulary in Portugal. At this
moment I try to complete my
PhD dissertation about the history of
biochemistry in Portugal. E-mail
contact: [log in to unmask]
I'm intersted to know the international
reputation of Kurt Jacobsohn
(1904-1991), a German-born Jewish
biochemist. He was a disciple of Carl
Neuberg and he developed his
careermainly in Portugal, at the IRC
where he
played a fundamental role in the
emergence of Portuguese biochemistry.
This is the subject of my Ph.D
dissertation.
Kurt Jacobsohn claims the mention of
your work in the the following books:
- Hans v. Euler, Chemie der
Enzyme(1934)
- Carl Oppenheimer, Die Ferment und
ihre Wirkungen (1936)
- Eugen Bamann, K. Myrback,
Methoden der Fermentforschung, (1942)
Can anybody help? These books are not
available in Portugal.
Probably there are other references.
Many thanks
Isabel Amaral
