Dear all,
Thanks so much for the fantastic response to my plea for help a couple of
weeks ago - I'm pleased to say that the presentation's now been and gone
without any major glitches.
I thought people might be interested to know about the sources I found
particularly useful as introductions to evolutionary computing, in case
anyone throws themselves on your collective mercy in future.
WEBSITES
(i) HITCHIKERS GUIDE TO EVOLUTIONARY COMPUTING
(Comprehensive and well-written, very good on theory - as far as I can make
out anyway - perhaps a few too many references to Douglas Adams)
http://alife.santafe.edu/~joke/encore/
or
http://alife.ccp14.ac.uk/zooland/encore/
(ii) EVONET
(more up-to-date and newsy)
http://www.dcs.napier.ac.uk/evonet
(iii) JOHN KOZA's SITES
(commercial and non-commercial sites, both contain info about GP theory and
practical applications)
http://www.genetic-programming.com
http://www.genetic-programming.org
(iv) William M. Spears
(a wide range of articles by William M. Spears, a former moderator of this
list)
http://www.aic.nrl.navy.mil/~spears
BOOKS
(i)
Genetic Programming - An Introduction; On the Automatic Evolution
of Computer Programs and Its Application.
by Wolfgang Banzhaf, Peter Nordin, Robert E. Keller, Frank D.
Francone (dpunkt-Verlag, Heidelberg. Morgan Kaufmann, San Francisco,
{1998})
(ii)
John Koza, genetic programming, MIT Press, 1992
(iii)
The Age of Spiritual Machines, Ray Kurzweil, Phoenix 1999
(a provocative look at the future of GP and other technologies... a very
good read)
Thanks again for all your help -
Graham Francis
