The Vienna Survey Centre
We are offering two full time posts for three years, starting on 1st April
1999. We are looking for creative and energetic people to join our
thriving Survey Centre The posts are to help with the fulfilment of two
large EC projects funded under the Fifth Framework Programme. The first
"Households, Work and Flexibility" covers the countries: Sweden,
Netherlands, UK, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Bulgaria and
Romania and is directed by Professor Claire Wallace. The second one being
part of the COPERNICUS programme "Lifestyles, Living Conditions and Health"
covers mainly the NIS countries of Ukraine, Belarus, Russian Federation,
Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgistan, Moldova and is directed by Dr.
Christian Haerpfer.
For both posts, excellent English is a requirement and Russian would be an
advantage.
Some knowledge of one or both of the above research areas is also desirable.
The Survey Centre does not pay relocation costs, but could help with short
term accommodation until the post holder finds a permanent residence.
The Survey Centre is located in the Institute for Advanced Studies, a
leading academic research institute in Austria since thirty years.
Altogether, 70 staff are employed at the Institute, including economists,
finance specialists, political scientists, sociologists and education
experts.

Post 1: Administrative Officer
This post would be concerned with the day-to-day administration of the
above projects and other similar projects. It would involve communicating
with the different partners in different countries, arranging meetings and
seminars, and ensuring that the work programme is fulfilled. The post
would also involve preparing reports and documents for the European
Commission, helping with publicity for the project, including helping with
the creation and maintenance of a web page and newsletter. An important
element of the project would be keeping the financial records in the
appropriate form required by the sponsor.
The candidate should have some experience with project administration and
should have at least a Bachelors degree.
Salary: from 31 000 ATS per month (gross/brutto) depending on age and
experience
Post 2: Survey Co-ordinator
This person would need to be familiar with SPSS and with handling large,
multi-national data sets. Their task would be to help with the
administration of the surveys, including organising translation of
questionnaires, quality control checks of field work, liaising with various
survey partners, preparing and standardising the data set, producing
tabulations and helping with analysis and writing reports.
The candidate must have at least a Bachelors degree in a relevant academic
field.
Salary: from 31 039 ATS per month (gross/brutto) depending on age and
