Folks,
By the end of this week the DCMI will have distributed a Draft Proposal for
Dublin Core Interoperability Qualifiers, the penultimate deliverable of
perhaps the most important component of the 1999 DCMI workplan.
This document is the consolidated product of element working groups that
have developed, debated, and balloted proposals for a set of element
qualifiers to promote interoperable qualification of the Dublin Core
Metadata Element Set.
One final step remains: approval of these proposals by the DC-Usage
Committee. This will take place during the month of January. By the end of
January, we will have the foundation set of interoperability qualifiers that
will promote consistent DC deployment across a broad range of application
areas.
This is an important milestone for the community, the culmination of the
efforts of dozens of people who have worked very hard indeed to bring it
about. Congratulations to all who have participated, and especially to the
Working Group chairs who have carried the major burden of bringing the
proposals to maturity.
