Dear all,
we would have no problem following Stuart's proposal to introduce an
"auxiliary element" "DCEd.Audience" with the qualifiers "Intermediary" and
"Beneficiary". In the dc-ed community there may be developed a controlled
vocabulary, until then the specific vocabularies of the different suppliers
can be used as different schemes which are indicated by the name of the
scheme.
In the context of the European Schoolnet (EUN) we have solved the problem in
the following way:
<< The 16th element (an additional EUN Element) is called USER LEVEL meaning
the intended users of the resource and including the beneficiary and the
school/training level. We gave it a composite value with an hyphen between
the two values and consisting of a User component (= beneficiary) and a
Level component from the given vocabulary. Label explanation of the user
component: 1. Administrator (administrative staff of all kind); 2. Parents;
3. Student; 4. Tutor; 5. Teacher; 6. Provider (person involved in the
production and distribution of teaching material); 7. Any (as residual
category). Label explanation of the level component: 1. Unknown (unknown or
not applicable); 2. Pre-school; 3. Primary (Primary and elementary school);
4. Secondary (Secondary school, senior high); 5. Vocational (Vocational
education and training); 6. AdultEducation (Adult and Community Education);
7. HigherEducation; 8.Juvenile (Material for children and adolescents in
general); 9. Adult (Material for adults in general). Example: <META
NAME="EUN.UserLevel" CONTENT="(SCHEME=EUN) Student-Primary"> . Comments in
our manual: UserLevel is mandatory for indexing and searching purposes (to
identify educational topicality of the resource for specific educational
environments). The element may be repeated if more than one entry is
applicable for the resource. >>
The labels for the "user component" may be counted as proposal for the
controlled vocabulary of "beneficiary".
