Department of Geography
The Department of Geography at the University of Victoria invites
applications for two tenure-track positions, one at the entry Assistant
Professor level, the other possibly at the junior Associate Professor
level. Building on existing strengths in the Department, we are seeking
scholars with teaching and research skills in (i) hydrology and/or fluvial
geomorphology and (ii) applied resource management and geomatics, with an
interest in the environment of developing countries. The appointment will
take effect July 1st, 2000. The ideal candidates will have a Ph.D. in
geography or a closely related discipline and have an interest in
collaborating with an interdisciplinary group of faculty and students. The
Department is seeking to increase diversity of its current faculty with
regard to women. Preference therefore will be given to candidates who
further this diversity objective.
The Department offers diverse undergraduate programming in both Arts and
Science, and collaborates with the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences to
offer an interdisciplinary geoscience degree leading to professional
registration. The Department maintains a vigorous graduate program,
offering M.A, M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees, and the successful candidates will
be expected to supervise graduate students. Also, the Department has
recently developed a new Strategic Plan which includes a strong commitment
to inclusivity, diversity and collegiality, and the successful candidates
