Full call follows:
This call is for papers that will be published in the International Journal
of Human Computer Studies and later as a book by Academic Press in the
Computers and People series.
Research on the home and recreational use of information and communications
technology is burgeoning and has reached a pivotal and definitive stage. We
intend that the papers published in this collection will be influential for
years to come.
Topic:
Use of information and communication technology at home includes many
application domains such as entertainment and play, interpersonal
communication, telework, education, information services, and electronic
shopping. Papers may address any issue relating to the design and impact
of such applications.
We are particularly looking for papers that include one or more of the
following contributions to knowledge
- Theoretical analyses of the nature of the household and roles within it
and their interaction with household technology
- Generalisable analyses of user requirements or context of use based on
sound qualitative (ethnographic) or quantitative data
- New methods or notations for describing home use or context of use or
evaluations of traditional methods
- Principles for designing information technology for the home and designs
that illustrates them
- Multifaceted and innovative applications that will stand as inspiration
for other designs
- A thorough empirical evaluation of an application using quantitative or
qualitative data
- Empirical and theoretical analyses of the impact of information
technology at home
Format:
Papers for the special issue must confirm to the format and style adopted
by the International Journal of Human-Computer Studies. Information about

Authors will be invited to add material, especially graphics and other
figures, to their papers before they are re-published in the book.
Dates:
Deadline for submissions 14 January 2000
Deadline for reviewers 1 March 2000
Deadline for receipt of final manuscripts April 2000
Special issue published July 2000
Book published end of 2000
