How many of you have seen the Health Circular HSC 99/239 released at
beginning of this week that includes the following section:
>> Where, exceptionally, a patient has to wait in A&E for more than four
hours from the decision to admit, the NHS Trust Chief Executive or Medical
Director will be informed about and expected to resolve the situation
personally. The Chief Executive or their representative should also explain
to the patient, or their carer where appropriate, what steps are being taken
to resolve the situation.
>> In extreme cases where patients have waited more than 12 hours from the
decision to admit, the hospital will have to inform the Regional Director
who will be expected to take immediate action to help resolve the problem.
It is available in full on the DOH website
