Call For Papers
Healthy Communities Through Women's Eyes
WE (Women & Environments) International Magazine is interested in
exploring the issues of women and healthy communities. What makes a
healthy community for women; how are women specifically affected how can
women contribute.
Healthy or sustainable communities have been a growing field of study
over the last decades. Healthy communities, a holistic vision, aim to
improve the quality of life for all members and to restore a sense of
belonging to people, alienated by growing economic, social and
environmental concerns that by now have reached global proportions.
WE (Women & Environments) International Magazine is looking for
submissions from both North, South, aboriginal and minority communities
containing and sharing analyses, theories, cross cultural comparisons,
creative initiatives, projects and processes that address women's
concerns/needs in creating healthy communities.
ALTERNATIVE FORMS OF GOVERNANCE
What role do and should women play in the contemporary revival of civil
society? What are the possibilities for and obstacles to women's
participation in alternative forms of governance in different political
environments, especially at the local community level? How do women see
these alternatives relate to traditional forms of government?
VIOLENCE, WOMEN AND WAR
Analyses of roots and repercussions of women as victims and tools of
war, torture, violence, alienation, stress and social objects as well as
creative solutions for healing are invited. Communal, public and
domestic violence and institutional discrimination are included.
COMMUNITY PLANNING, DESIGN AND OPERATION
How might healthy communities function and look from a feminist
perspective? What services - from housing, day care and jobs to transit
and utilities - should be available especially for women and groups who
often cannot access these in the market.
SELF-FULFILMENT, SPIRITUALITY, ARTS
Self-fulfilment, cultural, artistic and spiritual expression and
overcoming of stereotypes is increasingly seen as important to Healthy
Communities. What is women's contribution, role, access and recognition
in education, the arts, the media, social and spiritual institutions.
HUMAN AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
While our concerns about human and ecosystem health increase, the
economy of globalization tends to avoid and delay environmental
protection while capitalizing from ill health. What health issues affect
women, what are they doing about it? For further info, please contact
our office, see below.
COMMUNITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Can communities that rely on the global market be healthy? How have
cooperative and other non-capitalist economic experiments of the 20th
century served women. What kinds of strategies will improve the economic
welfare of women in communities around the world? For further info,
please contact our office, see below.
