Although concerned with parliamentary elections I was fascinated in the
details of the elections for the pocket borough of Reigate in the
Parliamentary Paper report on the enquiring into treating which resulted
in the Borough election of 1865 being declared void and the Borough
loosing the vote.
The report lists by name who voted and for whom for the previous four
elections. For the relevant election there is an hour by hour analysis of
how many had so far voted for each candidate. Presumably the electorial
roll is used to record the vote of each elector.
For those interested there are some extraordinary accounts of "bribery"
and other devices to obtain votes. (I will dig out the full reference for
any one requiring details of the PP - just e-mail a request)
