<< Is archaeology intrinsically anti capitalist? >>
Capitalism and Archaeology are both attributes of a culture that arose in
Western Europe in the Enlightenment. As such they both feed from the same
roots. Capitalism is effectively the use (some would say "exploitation") of
what the urge to explore, which arose in that historical context, uncovers.
That urge to explore is indivisible, whether it to explore the behavior of
materials which had direct economic impact, or to explore the historical
roots of our world, which has far more subtle economic benefit.
