Having recently been one of the offending GPs mentioned by Simon (until
reading the posts here) I had the opposite experience of having a patient
turn up in my surgery today with a soft collar on which he had been given by
the local A+E on Thursday for a neck STI. He was very relieved to see it go
in the bin.
I mentioned what had been said here re:soft collars to the A+E staff and
they asked if I could pass on any key references - unfortunatly medline
searching under whiplash, soft collars etc. did not produce spectacular
results.
Would anyone like to send me appropriate references to back up not using
soft collars. A copy of a patient advice sheet to this effect would be
wonderful - to prevent me reinventing the wheel (I might get the shape
wrong!).
