I thought it would be helpful to circulate this suggestion from the
Community Youth work list which would make sense to adopt as policy
on ours.
It would certainly make my life easier

I would like to support the view, recently expressed, that not all email =
messages replied to on the list should necessarily go to all the lists =
membership (we are 254 people now). At the moment if a member uses the =
'reply' button in their email software, when responding to a c-y-w =
email, the response will go to everyone if it is of relevance to all or =
not. I would like to offer the following suggestion which seems to be an =
informal policy adopted by other mailing lists I've encountered.
If you think a response you make to an email is of relevance to =
everyone, please send it to the whole group by emailing =
...........(the list)........ @mailbase.ac.uk or by using the reply button in your =
email software. If you decide your response is of relevance to the =
sender only you can find out their personal email address, by looking at =
the top of the email source text - available, but sometimes hidden from =
you by email software - or, if its from a member, on our group website =
at the location http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/names.... (list) .
I hope suggesting this structure for the groups operation doesn't =
discourage or hinder any future communication, on the contrary, I would =
really like to encourage debate, discussion, networking, information =
sharing, resource sharing (and your thoughts and ideas) on this list, =
and hope that with a few moments thought before posting a reply to a =
message members can make the list more efficient and relevant for all =
our membership.
