Dear SPPA,
Thanks loads for comments and offers of help for the SPPA conference-
we're sorry that we haven't replied individually- slight problem with
email in-box dumping messages.
One suggestion we had for the structure of the conference involved
representatives from each university in Scotland giving a short
paper. It's a really good idea and we should try it, but it
could cause some problems for funding- some of the grants we'd be
applying for are conditional on our holding an open competition for
papers.
We'd like to ask SPPA advice on whether we should restrict the call
for papers to Scottish Postgrads, or whether the call should be UK
wide. What do you think?
Restriction to Scotland wouldn't cause serious financial problems
(in some ways would make things easier)- and might be warranted by
the small scale of the conference (1-day only). But perhaps thereby
we restrict things too much...? We'd like opinions.
Also, we're looking to hold it in the last weekend of the Easter
holidays- that's 15th April 2000. Does that sound OK?
All suggestions as to how we can make sure that the whole of the SPPA
is included in the conference very welcome too. We thought of doing
a Scotland tour, with SPPA money, but 'tis a poor season for
hitching.
Do reply to the list
[log in to unmask]
rather than straight to Ben's address- the rusty old SPPA list could
use some more traffic.
Cheers,
Ben and Sophie
Edinburgh
