Welcome. You need 'Manorial Records' by Denis Stuart (Phillimore1992
pp120) £12.95 (then). Excellent for novices like me.
Good luck.

1. Introductions, since this is my first contact with the list: I am a
functionary in Brussels, and formerly academic historian of sorts, working

grateful for the opportunity to ask a few questions. Starting with:
2. Can anyone recommend me some basic reading on manorial history? I
need to get up to speed on manorial courts and the management of manorial
estates (have read Hainsworth: Stewards, Lords & People which I found
extremely useful, but it assumes a working knowledge of manorial courts and
tenures which I claim only precariously). I need a few articles/books which
will give me a reasonable understanding of manorial courts, jurisdictions,
tenancy arrangements in 17th century. Grateful for any advice.
Thank you
Martin Rose
