Online Guide to the Papers of Charles Booth: RSLP Project.
The British Library of Political and Economic Science and the University
of London Library have been awarded a grant to establish an Online Guide
to the Papers of Charles Booth. Charles Booth’s survey into the living
and working conditions of Londoners undertaken between 1889 and 1902, is
the only 19th century survey for which the original notes and data have
survived, providing a unique resource for investigation into the social
and economic history of late 19th century London. The project will
combine digitisation of the Maps Descriptive of London Poverty, some
survey materials and the family magazine the colony, along with enhanced
indexing of the Inquiry notebooks and personal papers to provide
researchers with full and innovative access to the data from the
collections
Technical Officer (12-month contract) Post Ref : L030
Salary: £18,915-£24,479 plus London weighting
BLPES is seeking to appoint a Technical Officer to undertake the
technical work necessary for the development and implementation of the
Project. The Technical Officer will be responsible for creating,
developing and maintaining the Charles Booth website, managing the
digitisation of the Maps Descriptive of London Poverty, the survey
notebooks and The Colony family newspaper, and their linkage to modern
map data, along with the bibliographic records for the survey notebooks.
The person appointed will have a degree, ideally in computing or a
related subject along with 2 years' experience in a relevant IT
environment. An interest in digitisation, resource discovery and some
knowledge of web technology will be an advantage.
