Hi Roddy
I'm pleased my suggestion proved useful (I think you owe me a pint).
As well as the number of links, you could possibly use links from
quality sites in your negotiations (are you in yahoo.com or
yahoo.co.uk).
You could also possibly say the position you ranked to a
"reasonable" query (i.e. on 1 Nov, EEVL was ranked in the top 20 hits at
AltaVista in a response to the query "quality engineering resources").
If the number of links is important it might be useful for you to
keep an eye on the growth.
If the number of links, availability from well-known manual gateways
and ranking position is important, it might be worth considering buying
a submit-it package or service.
I did wonder whether the HE community should write its own - how
difficult would it be?
Note IU'll be giving a talk on Promoting Your Project Web Site on 18
Nov. My slides are available at:

Comments welcome.
