Residential fires:
Have you tried the Association of British Insurers (abi.org.uk) - while
I'm pretty sure their regular publications (Insurance Trends etc) do not
break down claims by cause, these also do include articles on particular
issues which may well include info on house fires.
It may also be worth contacting major general insurers directly (in
principle I'd imagine they would be highly supportive of any research
that might reduce their claims incidence) and looking at general
insurance trade publications.
There are also a number of 'risk' sites on the internet.
