I'd like to interrupt your current debates to tell you about a new
book from the Disability Press.
The Book is called
' Disability and Development: learning from action and research on
disability in the majority world'
and it's edited be Emma Stone (isbn 0-9528450-3-2) pp. 294
It features fifteen original contributions from disability activists,
international development planners, practicioners and researchers -
all of whom have been working on disability in the majority world in
areas as diverse as Afghanistan, China, Jordan and South Africa. The
book's central theme considers the issues raised when western
ideas and practices migrate to the majority world. Subjects covered
include: empowerment, disabled people's organisations, community
based re/habilitation, inclusive education, different cultural
responses to impairment and disability, disability services, research
and action.
As with all Disability Press titles it is available in a variety of
formats. If you require large print or tape versions please state
clearly your preference when placing an order. Braille copies are
available on request from the RNIB (Royal National Institute
for the Blind) Library.
