Within the Leonardo da Vinci program Middlesex University has collaborated
with the Research Centre of Pure and Applied Mathematics at the University
of Salerno (Italy), Addlink Software Cientifico (Spain) and I.T.G. Di Palo
(Italy) to create a piece of software aid to mathematics teaching called
MATEACHER.
MATEACHER is an educational software tool designed for science educators
and students, especially in the field of mathematics. MATEACHER consists of
a complete course (made up of theoretical lessons and exercise sessions) in
Linear Algebra and Probability Calculus. This course can be used to
underpin concepts that have been learned through classic lectures given by
lecturers, as well as for creating follow-up exercises for individualised
practice sessions, whether at home or in a laboratory setting.
We would like to stress that MATEACHER does not replace the traditional
lecture-giving role of lectures and teachers, but rather gives them an
innovative tool to help prepare for lectures and generate exercises.
At this stage in the development process, we are very interested in
defining the needs of mathematics professionals, and for this reason we are
asking for your feedback. We would be grateful if you, your colleagues and
students could view a demo version of the program and complete an online
questionnaire. The questionnaire and demo lessons are available on the
website http://www.teleregion.co.uk/mateacher.
We would like to thank you in advance for your participation in this
important information-gathering step. Please feel free to contact me if you
have any questions or doubts.
Yours sincerely,
Jane Garner
