Dear All
I have not been able to keep up to date with all the contributions to the
two ongoing debates about public space and radical ideas in geography BUT I
just wanted to say that Jamie Peck and I are trying to make sure that
Antipode fills the gap as far as radical political economy is concerned.
Jamie and I (with a new editorial board) have just taken over editing the
journal and we have identified radical political economy as a key area in
which we would like Antipode to make a contribution to the discipline.
There is so much geographers can say about globalisation, new forms of
capitalism, inequality, new power-geometries, the regulation of capitalism,
changing class structures, governance, scale ... and so on, and we hope you
will think of submitting papers on such things to the journal.
We have also launched two new sections of the journal to which you are
invited to contribute. These sections are designed to take Antipode back to
its roots - as a more activist, fast-response, political project - one is
called 'Intervention' and the other 'Dissident geographies'.
Intervention is designed so that people can vent their spleen over
something pressing - in about 1000 words (without refereeing). Dissident
Geographies is designed to publish overviews of the state of radical
scholarship in particular fields or places - and we except these to be
about 4000 words (and subject to limited refereeing by people in the field).
The journal will continue to publish papers on all issues of concern to
radical geographers (we don't want to become a journal solely associated
with political economy and will continue to interpret radical geography as
widely as possible) - but we have identified radical political economy as
one area where geographers do not appear to have an outlet for their ideas,
despite the fundamental importance of work in this field.
Please contact us with your ideas.
Many thanks. Jane
