I do wonder, as I cleared out mailboxes full of angry messages this week, if
the debate that Raju initiated might have been better situated within a room
full of people versus on-line/on-screen, so people can perceive non-verbal
signs and go back and forth a little quicker...deal with complexity, laugh,
agree to disagree with a glint in the eye, etc. My previous correspondence
with him has always been pleasant, and I think that he is a very committed
person who is sincerely interested in open discussion and debate about
ideas. Did the communications technology that we used help facilitate a
debate that degenerated? In this case, I think so (and please don't
criticise me for being a technological determinist!)...
