Dear All,
**Let me first apologise for any cross-posting of this message**
coMentor [http://comentor.hud.ac.uk] is software free to UK HEIs and creates
a collaborative virtual learning environment on the WWW for students to work
together. The development of coMentor was funded by JTAP.
We are now looking to establish a coMentor support network. It is proposed
that we establish a mutual support group of coMentor users with technical
assistance from Huddersfield who will demonstrate the range of subjects and
approaches in which coMentor can be used and also provide expertise for
continuing support. After one year the group would be self-supporting.
The group will be keen and sophisticated users of C&IT and learning
technology. They will be able to form a relatively experienced and mutually
supportive group, co-ordinated by the coMentor support person.
We are seeking partner institutions in the UK for a named member of staff to
act as an institutional co-ordinator and member of the support group. Within
this, we are looking for two groups of individuals. One of these would
consist of programmers, with particular emphasis on open source software.
The other group will consist of academics, who will use and prepare the
coMentor software for use in their teaching. On the academic side, small
grants will be given to the partner institutions to assist them in
developing teaching materials. A budget will be required, to account for
spending.
The group members will:
* liaise with Computing Services at their institution to set up
coMentor, develop a programme for integrating coMentor with teaching, and
run training sessions for staff and students,
* maintain, monitor and evaluate the use of coMentor, and prepare
teaching resources for use with coMentor,
* attend conferences with other institutional co-ordinators,
* prepare a report on the experience of using coMentor,
* evaluate the service agreement with Diversity University Services
for supporting the MOO aspects of coMentor.
The support person at Huddersfield will provided technical assistance for
the group, and advise members of the group on the best ways to plan and run
courses using coMentor and answer queries.
Please contact me (mailto:[log in to unmask]) if you are interested in
the coMentor mutual support group and would like to discuss the matter
further, or if you would like further information on the software itself.
We would like to establish the institutional co-ordinators for the support
group, and hopefully arrange an introductory meeting, reasonably quickly.
With best regards,
Stuart
