The Intelligent Signal Processing Group at the University
of Brighton has a vacancy for a research fellow available
for two years from January 2000, funded by the European
Union.
The post involves the development of intelligent
techniques, neural networks, fuzzy methods etc., for
modelling and classification where the problem domain
involves a large and complex feature space. The main
application area will involve the development of virtual
sensor systems in motor vehicle engines and liaison with
researchers working in this area will be necessary.
Applicants should have a PhD in an appropriate area, be
competent speakers of English, and be available in the UK
for interview.
== Desirable technical skill areas ==
Comprehensive knowledge of neural networks, fuzzy
systems, and other intelligent techniques;
Some knowledge of wavelets, Fourier analysis and similar
techniques;
Knowledge of internal combustion engine technology;
Good programming ability in C;
Good laboratory and electronic measurement skills;
Ability to use MATLAB;
Ability to apply intelligent techniques to practical
problems;
Good written and verbal English and communication skills.
== The Intelligent Signal Processing Group ==
The ISP group carries out research into the application
of intelligent systems techniques to industrial problems,
as well as the development of generic intelligent tools
and methods. The ISP Group carries out joint projects
with the Transfrontier Centre for Automotive Research.
The ISP Group consists of about six members of faculty
staff, a research fellow, about eight PhD students.
Current projects involve the application of intelligent
systems to a number of areas, automotive problems,
condition monitoring and fault prediction, high-voltage
diagnostics and medical diagnosis.
