A preserved Brickworks in Melbourne, Australia, is proposed for
relevelopment. Part of the site will become houseing, and part preserved
for its historic values. The site "Hoffman Brick and Pottery" retains three
large Hoffman kilns variously dating from the 1880s to c1910 , the 1885
press building with several Bradley and Craven type machines and one edge
runner mill, and sundry other sheds and pottery buildings.
What I am interested in knowing, is how a complex such as this compares
with other historic brickworks around the world - are there any other sites
with three or more surviving Hoffman Kilns?. It is the only site with three
Hoffman Kilns in Australia (there are a couple of others with a single
kiln) and is one of only a handful with any pre WWI brick making machinery.
