Hi all
regarding the TV program on ME: There was a program on Australian TV
and damn me if I can remember what it was!!! Anyway, it was about
parents of children (one of whom had a child with ME) being investigated
by the Dept of Community Services as suspected 'Munchausen's by
Proxy' despite medical evidence to the contrary which was ignored.
There was no consultation with anyone of possible consequence.
Another case saw a woman who was threatened by the 'specialist' via
conspiracy with the medical practitioner, that they would report her to
authorities and have her child removed from her. This was because she
sought a second opinion. She had to leave the state of Queensland to get
the second opinion because no-one else would touch her. Her second
opinion contradicted the Qld examinations so she went to the US where
they told her it was too late to save her son from the permanent affects of
not having the operation he needed early enough.
can you imagine these conscientious workers from Community Services
sifting through files and finding people who fit into the category of
Munchausen's by Proxy? The problem is, that the criteria used to identify
the condition is very similar to the characteristics of parents who seek
quality services by asking questions and pursuing knowledge in the area.
Trial by fad?
Best regards
