This is usually the problem with multiple mailings - especially about
conferences.
If the poster puts a short message inviting people to ask for more
information - off list - it would be a minor irritation when the message is
irrelevant.
Unfortunately, too many put the whole conference brochure and enrolment
form onto each list. My mailbox hasn't exploded, yet. But I've come close
to personal explosion as the long message takes ages to download each time.
Discussion, too, are all very well when the respondees remove unnecessary
parts of the original message(s). Postings can get very long if everyone
just presses the 'reply' key and adds rheir twopenworth.
