Hi Kim,

It would be nice to think that my title "educational technologist"
relects the culture of Sussex but it's simply that I got fed up with
saying I was a "software development and integration co-ordinator" or
plain old "Project officer". My job title could be anything I liked so
I chose something more succinct, in Sussex no-one really notices these
things unless your running along the mainstream
post-grad/post-doc/lecturer/senior lecturer/reader/professor route!
You probably remember how Sussex is, Kim? I'm officially employed as
"other related faculty" I think! (On short term contract)
What do I actually do? Just about anything! I teach an undergrad
course (first time this year), I help teach/support other courses
(Evolution, Conservation, Computing, Maths etc in Biological Sciences
and Engineering). Occasionally I get involved with staff development
(web authoring, use of CMC etc) as well as doing all the usual TLT
officer stuff. I also work closely with my colleague Richard Inskip
(Sussex's Multimedia Co-ordinator) to further the use of CMC/CAA in
teaching and learning across campus.
Research? As I am not doing a PhD no-one expects me to publish or
research. This doesn't mean we don't "research" or evaluate what we do
in our movement towards more use of C&IT in teaching and learning!
Much of our work is disemminated locally and no further, our mistake I
think?!
Anyway, hope this doesn't confuse the issue too much more?
Sally
