CARERS' ASSESSMENTS: THE KEY TO CARING ABOUT CARERS?
"A one day conference for social services, health, education and housing
staff concerned about raising standards in carers' assessments"
Organised by the Social Policy Research Unit at the University of York
(in partnership with the King's Fund)
Thursday 10 February 2000 at The Stakis Hotel, Tower Street, York
This national conference has been organised to coincide with the first
anniversary of the publication of the National Strategy for Carers,
'Caring About Carers', which underlines the importance of all agencies
assessing the needs of carers. The conference will provide an
opportunity to discuss the current policy, management and practice of
assessing carers’ needs.
The Conference Aims to
- present findings from a new study by the Social Policy Research Unit
at the University of York of the Carers (Recognition and Services) Act
1995, and show how policy is being translated into practice at the local
level
- discuss these new findings in conjunction with other work on carer
assessment including that of the King’s Fund, and demonstrate their
importance for effective implementation of the National Strategy for
Carers consider how Social Services, Health, Education and Housing can
better assess carers’ needs
- consider how social services, health, education and housing can better
assess carers' needs
As well as hearing how some of the lessons from research are being used
to improve practice in assessing carers’ needs, delegates will have the
opportunity to attend one of five seminars focusing on a specific aspect
of carer assessment. The seminars offer a chance for delegates to
exchange experiences and ideas.
The conference will conclude with a panel of distinguished individuals
who will be discussing carer assessment from their different
perspectives.

from Social Services, Health Authorities, NHS Trusts, Primary Care
