Clive wrote about his forthcoming work, saying he includes
an analysis of the quite
widespread phenomenon of researchers who say they use grounded
theory but
in fact do simple 'pattern analysis'(a term I got from Lyn Richards).
I've already had a couple of private queries, and (aaargh) Clive has had one
onlist - Pleeeeease, in the interests of avoiding the sort of
subscriber-shedding onlist requests for messages that we suffered recently
on this list, here's the web address!!

The ref is a paper Tom and I gave at the recent BSA conf, and it did have a
go at reviving and focussing discussion of what I called there the Grounded
Theory red herring in the qual software discourse. Which takes us back to
the earlier messages in this thread - and the puzzlement of the recurrent
suggestion/accusation/inference that qualitative software packages all or
most are "doing" or "trying to do" Grounded Theory, all or most of the time.
I'd write more about that if I were not so keen to press send and stop
anyone asking for the ref onlist!!
in desperate haste..........!
cheers
