1. A good article with ideas is Pashkow P (1996) Outcomes in cardiopulmonary
rehabilitation
Physical Therapy 76, 6, 643 - 656.
2. The CSP publish a booklet Standards for the Exercise Component of Phase
III Cardiac Rehabilitation (1999) which includes some suggestions of outcome
measures to use.
These cost £2.50 sterling. Send a cheque made payable to the Chartered
Society of Physiotherapy, to:
The Professional Affairs Department
Chartered Society of Physiotherapy,
14 Bedford Row,
London, WC1R 4ED,
UK
3. If you are working in the UK, you could access the CSP outcome measures
database, via the Internet, which is a listing of a range of different
outcome measures with references, and details of the use of the outcome
measure.
CSP outcomes measures database
1. Go to www.nice.org.uk
2. click on NCCA / Clinical Audit (top right hand corner of the home page:
the page with the map of England and Wales on)
3. read this page: click on "continue" - this takes you to the "member - non
member" page
4. click on "non member"
5. click on "apply for membership" (it's free to join)
6. complete the form on the screen: invent your own password and user name:
remember them!
7. wait for confirmation from NICE of your application (usually about 72
hours)
8. when you've received acceptance of your application, repeat steps 1 - 3:
click on the "member" icon
9. click on "databases" (left hand side of the screen)
10. read the information and start looking. Happy searching!
clues to searching:
1. choose a specialty eg musculoskeleletal, rheumatology, neurology etc.;
2. choose a location from: inpatients, community, outpatients,
rehabilitation
3. if you're not sure and want to search the whole database just type: 'csp
- outcomes'
4. if you want a generic measure, type: 'csp - outcomes and generic'
I hope this is helpful, good luck

Subject: cardiac rehab
Has anyone got any useful ideas for outcome measures for cardiac rehab -
both quality of life and exercise tolerance and / or any references for
these.
Thanks
