I am a 4th year Physio student, undertaking an issue group on Pain. We are
particularly looking at the role of physios in managing pain in different
clinical settings.
I am investigating two settings: Out-Patients and Community (domi) and am
trying to find some information from experienced clinicians with regard to
the following:
1: What types of patients do you get in each setting? (i.e. in O/P is it
mainly acute/semi-acute musculoskeletal complaints, or is this a sweeping
generalisation?)
2: What are the needs of the patients in each setting? (i.e. is treating a
patient at home aimed more at helping them to cope in their own environment,
or is it just for patients who are unable to attend a physio department)
3: What are the roles of the physio as a pain manager, in each setting?
4: What are the roles of other professionals in the treatment of pain in
each setting?
We are currently searching the literature and texts but were hoping to get
some responses from the clinical field.
If anybody has any opinions, experiences etc., that they could share I (and
my group) would be extremely grateful.
