CALL FOR PAPERS
This conference, about the role of oral testimony in the life and history of
cities, will be held on 1st/2nd April 2000 in Birmingham, England.
Contributions are invited which meet the following aims and themes.
Aims:
To encourage people to share ideas froma variety of sources, to cross
disciplinary boundaries and to arrive at innovative visions.
To analyse the significance of the role of physical and plitical boundaries
to the creation and maintenance of a sense of place.
To explore creative and innovative approaches to recording, storing and
presenting oral histories in cities.
Themes:
What can oral history do for people in cities?
How will city life be remembered?
What are urban myths adn what do they tell us?
What resources are available for doing oral history in cities?
How have urban agencies and activists used memories as a tool?
Synopses of contributions or themes, (not more than 200 words please)
