I would like to thank Adrienne publicly for being
the scholar that she is, and for being willing to put
herself on the line in what I can only imagine was a
very, very difficult - unbelievably difficult -
situation.
Her equanimity, reasonableness and eloquence come
across even in the pieces I've read (I have not yet
read the whole transcript).
Despite grave concerns I have about this event
(well actually the ongoing events surrounding Singer's
appointment and statements), I think the choice of a
prominent scholar with a strong disability perspective
speaks well for disabled people and for disability
studies as a field. Let's keep building on that.
We have to keep shining harsh lights on the guy.
As many have said, his positions are not only morally
unacceptable, but remarkably faulty.
