Judith,
MS Word seems to handle metatags quite well. Try the following:
1. Create a document in MS-Word
2. Select: File -> Properties -> Custom
3. Add the following:
Name: DC.Title
Type: Text
Value: This is my document...
4. Click on "Add"
5. Save the document as "Word Document"
6. No save the document as "HTML"
Note: If you actually look at the source you can see your properties
as Metatags in the <HEAD> section
7. Close the HTML document in Windows
8. Open the HTML document in a text editor different to Word and change
the content of the DC.Title Metatag, save the changes
9. Open the HTML document in Word and save it as a "Word Document"
10. Check the Property settings...
There is one problem though if you have repeated Metatags only the
last occurrence will be kept. All other data is lost! This is not
a pure word issue though. Some search engine software doesn't
honor multiple repeats in the <HEAD> section either.
Also, not sure what search engine software will extract your "custom"
DC
fields from the word document...
