Thomas,
The business need for this query is as follows:
We want staff in our organisation to be able to author documents using
standard desktop tools like Word but we also want to encourage them to
publish documents on the Intranet or Internet. They could just provide a
link to the Word document, but we'd like to use Word's capability to save as
HTML. We'd also like to encourage them to add DC metadata to the HTML
versions, both for resource discovery purposes and web site management
purposes.
Serious web publishers in our organisation use an HTML editor and can cut
and paste the metadata from a metadata generator or clone the metadata from
another html template. But we shouldn't have to demand this skill level from
all staff. In fact, even asking them to key in DC.Title in the name field
in Word will put most of them off.
I'd like to be able to customise the File/Properties/Summary tag in Word to
mimic a simple DC generator. If I can't do this, I'd like to be able to
change the default custom properties in Word to DC metadata elements.
Otherwise, I think it will be back to the web form and metadata repository
idea. Or perhaps Office 2000 will solve all my problems.
