Social Justice for children?
Challenging the effects of poverty on families?
Giving young people a voice in regeneration?
If these ideas appeal to you, this could be the chance you’ve been
waiting for.
The Children's Society project in Holts Village, Oldham, is seeking
committed enthusiastic people for two positions.
Project Worker (Action Research) Ref: 044/N/POS
£15,198 - £19,770 per annum
37 hours per week
12 month contract
This post is to carry forward a participative model for mapping
anti-poverty work for children and young people in communities; the
developing model will be piloted three times in different areas in
Oldham and each pilot will result in a local community action plan.
This will be a high profile and influential piece of work and will be
disseminated widely.
A good Social Science degree, experience of social research and the
ability to use appropriate statistical packages are essential.
The post is 50% SRB funded and is temporary for 12 months.
Project Worker (Social Inclusion) Ref: 045/N/POS
£15,198 - £19,770 per annum
37 hours per week
This post is about tackling poverty and promoting social inclusion and
justice for children and young people. Much of the work will be
undertaken within a community; some will impact on systems across the
town and beyond.
There are likely to be a number of discrete time-limited pieces of work
running concurrently. Potential areas include initiatives to reduce
unwanted teenage pregnancy, to investigate the demand and potential for
out-of-school care, to develop strategies to challenge racism in
communities and in children, to help parents discover how to enjoy their
children’s learning. Initially, the post-holder will work with the
Action Research worker to conduct the first pilot.
A professional qualification is expected; graduates with substantial
relevant experience and understanding of the issues will also be
considered.
For an application pack please write to Yvonne Guha, The Children’s
Society, 131 Nevile Road, Kersal, Salford M7 3PP quoting the relevant
reference number.
Closing date: 27th October 1999
Interview dates: PW (Action Research) 5th November & PW (Social
Inclusion) 15th November.
Applications from ethnic minorities and men are particularly welcome as
they are under represented at this level in the Region.
