European Citizens and Electronic Information: The memory of the Information
Society
Brussels, Belgium
18-19 October 1999
http://www.dlmforum.eu.org.
Sponsored by the European Commission
The second multidisciplinary European Forum on Electronic Records will be held
from 18 to 19 October 1999 at the European Commission’s Conference Center
Charlemagne in Brussels, Belgium. The forum will bring together
specialists and executives involved in the management of information flow
and electronic records. The Forum aims to improve direct access to
electronic information for citizens and to enhancing the quality and
accessiblity of digital archives. It aims to raise awareness of decision
makers, public administrators, archivists, records managers and researchers
of the issues and strategies related to the preservation of the memory of
the information society.
The presentations and discussion at the conference will be oriented towards
practical solutions and should examine the possibilities for giving a
Europe-wide impulse to industry in the field of priority DLM-activities.
This will ensure the lasting memory of the Information Society. The forum
will consist of plenary sessions and parallel working party meetings around
the general theme "European citizens and electronic information: the memory
of the Information Society". The aspect of access to public information
will play an important role as well as the question of transparency and
openness.
The Conference, which will be opened by the Secretary- General of the
European Commission Carlo Trojan, has drawn key speakers from Europe and
elsewhere acrosss the globe who are making major contributions to
addressing the issues raised by ensuring the long term access to the Memory
of the Information Society.
A full conference programme and registration details can be found at:
http://www.dlmforum.eu.org.
The first conference was held in Brussels in December 1996 and it was an
immense success. The subsequent publication of its work has been widely
cited. The Conference led to the development of a programme of work for
the DLM-Forum which has supported raising awareness, strategic and policy
developments and fostered commercial and public research in the areas of
electronic records and their management.
Registration Fee: 120 euros excluding accommodation.
This fee covers attendance at the conference, documents, refreshments,
cocktail reception and lunches. Participants will be responsible for their
