Why do you - and others - assume that the daughter's paralysis had any
part to play in the mother's suicide? The newspaper article said: "Carla
June Hochhalters suicide occurred about six months after her 17-year-old
daughter, Anne Marie, was critically wounded in the April 20 tragedy and
left partially paralyzed. It was not immediately known what other factors
might have contributed to Hochhalters suicide." The suicide is regretable,
but if we agree without protest that disability (one's self or a person
close to you) is sufficient grounds for ending one's life then we are
perpetuating our own dependent, second class, low quality of life position
which others assume we have and assign us to.
