Ditto Gerry - currently have same problem.
Ours wants to notify community HV's and school nurses for all attendances
under 16. For us, that's about 100 per day.
We aren't allowed to photocopy the card because of 'patient
confidentiality' (mystery to me, considering the rest of the process)
But she doesn't want to read the notes for each child, which means the
nursing staff distilling it onto a piece of paper. (Not too popular as you
can imagine).
We've just decided to allow nursing staff to 'sieve' notifications to
reduce the paperwork - the majority will just get an attendance
notification without further information. This attempt to reduce paperwork
met with a great deal of resistance from said LHV.
My recent thoughts distilled down to:
1. Our nurses can't cope currently!
2. While I accept that a lot of problems come to light after A&E
attendances, I would reinforce previous list comments that we are not a
screening service.
3. By going 'overboard' on the majority, the few that really need swift
attention can pale into the background.
4. This is good hunting ground for establishing what the community/PCG's
are prepared to fund, since it is usually them who are requesting the
information.
Best wishes
