ALT-C99 IN BRISTOL PROMISES TO BE BIGGEST YET
With nearly 450 delegates already registered for ALT-C99, this year's
conference looks set to be the biggest yet. The conference programme
takes as its theme the learning technology life-cycle, from initial
design through to implementation, and will include associated issues of
policy and staff development. It will bring together participants with
an interest in learning, teaching and technology. Selected papers
resulting from paper sessions and interactive presentations will be
published in ALT's peer-reviewed journal, ALT-J. Selected papers from
discussion groups will also be published.
ALT-C 99 is being jointly hosted by the CTI and ILRT, and will be held
at the University of Bristol from 21-23 September. Online registration
is still open for day-delegates only at £105/day. (Be sure to specify
'day-delegate' in the Special Requirements box.) Further details about
the conference - including comprehensive programme information - can be
found at the conference web site http://www.ilrt.bris.ac.uk/alt-c99/
In addition to the main conference programme there are five
pre-conference workshops, including this most recent addition:
PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP ON PAN-EUROPEAN STANDARDISATION OF LEARNING
TECHNOLOGIES
There are several standards emerging specifically for delivering
learning technologies. Are they going to be useful to learners and
developers or will they become a barrier to innovation? The workshop
will include discussion on, and information about: the aims of
standards, such as reusability and interoperability; the need for
European standardisation activity; an overview of emerging learning
technology standards; open European and international standards.
This important addition to the ALT-C pre-conference programme offers an
excellent opportunity to keep abreast of developments in this area. The
workshop is free and runs from 11:00-12:00 on Tuesday 21 September. More
