I agree about this meeting not being a suitable one for
videoconferencing -- less opportunity for one to ones at coffee time
and to introduce yourself to people you've not yet met.
Also, the two options of videoconferencing and regional meetings
still have travelling implications. If, for example the Northern
meeting/videoconf were to be in Newcastle and everyone travelled by
train, it would take the Glasgow contingent 2.5 hours to get here,
whereas it only takes them 3.5 hours to York. I would take the
Teesside contigent 1 hour to get here -- they could get to York in
the same time. And York is sub 2 hours from London.
I appreciate York isn't ideal for those who aren't proximate to the
east coast main line, but it is pretty damn convenient for the
majority.
