Phil,
Elliot gave you much the same answer as I would: I'm not familiar with
most of these, and those that I am familiar with didn't do what I was
looking for, so I haven't explored them.
My previous post was in response to inquiries from people just getting
into qualitative software, and the big point I was trying to make is that
there are a lot of very good programs, and people should take time to look
around and consider how the software fits with the way they work and
think and use computers already. Your post certainly reinforces the "lot
of software" point, since you've named so many I don't know about!
There are a number of text-search-type programs that seem intriguing, but
are just not "where I am" at the moment, so I haven't explored them
further. They also didn't seem in the same ballpark as the ones in the
original query that prompted my post, so I didn't include references.
Resources that may have more info: Harald Klein maintains a page of links
on software at http://www.intext.de/TEXTANAE.HTM, and there's another page at
http://www.york.ac.uk/inst/ctipsych/dir/qualitative.html. Both of these include
some of the packages you've mentioned.
Though I don't know enough about these types of programs to discuss them
intelligently, I would be interested if anyone else has further
descriptions or accounts of use. I'm fascinated by how people use
software in support of their goals, and always learn a lot from the
explanations.
So, what draws you to these programs, what else can you tell us about
them, and what sort of discussion were you looking for? :-)
Best,
Linda
